Revisit the Utrecht Early Music Festival 2018 on the Concertzender
The Utrecht Early Music Festival 2018 ended two weeks ago. The theme of this year’s festival was Burgundy and it included 239 concerts, presentations, a musical Renaissance banquet, the International Van Wassenaer Concours, workshops, master classes, and live-streams. The festival was a great success and attracted 70.000 vistors.
You may have been to some of the concerts or presentations, visited the market or listened to the live-streams.
Concert recordings
As in previous years, the Concertzender was present during the festival. We recorded 13 concerts from the main programme and all of the Fabulous Fringe concerts. We were also at the Early Music Market.

Utrecht Early Music Festival Live: Dialogos and Graindelavoix
Before we start the broadcasts of our recordings from the Utrecht Early Music Festival 2018 we return to two earlier editions of the festival in Concertzender Live on Friday 21 September at 15:00 CET. The programme features two recordings:
A concert by Dialogos led by Katarina Livljanić from 2017, and a concert by Graindelavoix led by Björn Schmelzer from 2008. Graindelavoix was also the curator in residence during the 2018 festival.

The research done by the Croation singer Katarina Livljanić, means that every concert by Diagolos becomes a voyage of discovery. Her programme for Dialogos and Kantaduri during the 2017 festival took as its starting point the remarkable incriptions on the gravestones and relics of the mediaeval church in Bosnia.

We were already familiar with these Ensembles and have made recordings of them during previous Festival editions. Under each concert there's a link to the previous recording.
Ensemble Masques led by Olivier Fortin
(recording 28th August 2018 in the Hertz, TivoliVredenburg): Rameau's Pièces de
clavecin en concerts
The 58 year old Jean-Philippe Rameau composed his only collection of chamber music: the Pièces de clavecin en concerts. These are triosonatas for harpischord, viola da gamba and violin or traverso, and probably the first keyboard trios in musical history.

Concertzender at the International Lute days
Not only were we present at the Early Music Festival 2018, during the last weekend (from 31st August to 2nd September) we recorded eight concerts during the International Lute days.
One of the most remarkable concerts was by
the European Lute Orchestra led by Gian Luca Lastraioli. This lute orchestra comprised players from all over Europe, who played every possible variety of lutes and fellow instruments. 500 to 600 strings were played.
The sound of tens of theorbas, alongside the necessary lutes and fellow instruments such as the colascione and baroque guitar, has not been heard on this scale since the 17th century.
We recorded the following concerts during the Lute days: ...
