The Utrecht Early Music Festival 2018 ended two weeks ago. The theme of this year’s festival was Burgundy and it included 239 concerts, presentations, a musical Renaissance banquet, the International Van Wassenaer Concours, workshops, master classes, and live-streams. The festival was a great success and attracted 70.000 vistors. You may have been to some of the concerts or presentations, visited the market or listened to the live-streams. Concert recordings As in previous years, the Concertzender was present during the festival. We recorded 13 concerts from the main programme and all of the Fabulous Fringe concerts. We were also at the Early Music Market. These are the concerts that we have recorded:
The recordings will be broadcast later this year. The exact dates of the broadcasts will be announced in our newsletter and on our website. The festival took place between 24 August and 2 September 2018 and focussed on the less well-known period of 14th and 15th century during which the Court of Burgundy was the centre of Franco-Flemish polyphonic vocal music. The festival also featured the music of French 18th century composers including Jean-Philippe Rameau and François Couperin. The curator in residence during the festival was the ensemble Graindelavoix led by Björn Schmelzer. The theme of next year’s festival is: Napoli!
