Broadcast concert ‘Codex Lerma’
On Thursday February 12th, as of 20:00, you can listen to a recording of a
very special concert in
‘Concertzender Live’,
which was held last December
in St. Peter's Church in Utrecht. You will hear
music from an old Spanish
music book: the ‘Codex Lerma’, performed by
Capella Sancta Maria led by
Enrique López- Cortón and winds ensemble
La Caravaggia.
The
‘Codex Lerma’, a book for wind players, was used at the court of Don
Francisco Gómez
de Sandoval (1552-1625), the first duke of Lerma.
For a long time the book was gathering dust in
a church in the little
Spanish town, until musico-
logist Maarten Vente from Utrecht
noticed the book in the 1950s.

‘Café Zimmermann’ with cello player Viola de Hoog
On January 24th, we recorded the programme ‘Café Zimmermann’ in the attractive Dean's Chapel of St. Peter's Church in Utrecht, with special guest cello player Viola de Hoog.
The compilation of ‘Café Zimmermann’ is done
by the programme makers
of ‘Bach Ad Infinitum’ and consists of live music and interviews with
musicians about their fascination for the music
of J.S. Bach.
This episode's guest, first-class cello player Viola de Hoog,
recently published a new CD which contains six cello suites of Johann
Sebastian
Bach. In ‘Café Zimmermann’ she will explain the genesis of Bach's cello
suites not just by playing pieces of the cycle, but also by clarifying
the context in which the work originated.
Broadcast: Sunday February 1st, 2015, 16:00 - 17:00. Broadcast: Friday February 6th, 2015, 13:00 - 14:00.
CD of the month: ‘Songs of Clarity’
This month's CD has been selected by Beatrijs Vissers (see: ‘Introducing...’).
Beatrijs chose the album ‘Songs of Clarity’
(2014) by soprano
Klaartje van Veldhoven
and the Amstel Quartet. Together with the
saxophone quartet, Klaartje sings songs of
Purcell and Byrd on ‘Songs
of Clarity’
(Harmonia Mundi KV 2014-2).
The CD could be produced thanks to crowd-
funding. Klaartje explains about her project
on voordekunst.nl.
Caution: donating to this project is not possible anymore!
The Concertzender has broadcasted a programme about this CD, which you can replay via this link.

New scheme: make way for ‘Concertzender Live’!
Probably
you will have noticed: on January 15th, the Concertzender adjusted the
broadcasting scheme. It may very well be that your favourite programmes and
music streams can now be found on another location on the radio. We
have informed you about the main changes by social media and on
our website. A scheme has been made for you, where you can find the
various music styles with help of the different colours. These changes
have been made to make way for our main mission: the recording and
broadcasting of concerts in the Netherlands.

Introducing …
Beatrijs Vissers, programme maker Early Music
“I will be making programmes for the Concertzender's editorial
team Early Music, for example ‘Documento’ (a topical programme
with comparatively more text), ‘Early Delights’ (exploring Early Music)
or ‘Nuove
Musiche’ (a programme which highlights one or more new CDs). The thing
I like the most is to elaborate on an idea and to collect music based
on that idea.”
Studies musicology
“I am very familiar with the Concertzender, having worked there before,
from 1991 to 2003. I started off as a volunteer and later on I had a
permanent position. I was producer and editor
of Early Music and
Classical Music. At that time
I worked with other volunteers to design
and programme two evenings a week. Besides that
I produced separate
programmes and I also
made a daily Bach programme. Or was it a weekly
programme? I don't exactly remember. But it was great fun doing it and
I keep very good memories of that period. I came to the Concertzender
after my studies Musicology,
upon recommendation of a fellow student.
Right from the beginning I felt very much at home at the Concertzender.
The organisational structure was entirely horizontal, it was a
cheerful and creative gang now and then. Most of the time, the people
could get along with
each other very well. It was a very pleasant
atmosphere.”
