Newsletter September 2011

Dear reader,

Here’s our first newsletter after the summer break. For those of us living in Holland it wasn’t the best of summers weather-wise. Hopefully you enjoyed it anyway, perhaps with the Concertzender playing in the background.

Speaking of enjoyment, will you be attending the concerts which will be given during the Early Music Festival in Utrecht? We will be there. Read more about it in this newsletter.

You can also read about the 100th  anniversary of GeNeCo, the Society of Dutch Composers. As a fan of the Concertzender you will receive discount tickets for their gala concert. Read on to find out how.

And of course you have a chance of winning a prize if you correctly answer our monthly prize question. This time there are 4 prizes to give away per raffle.

And last but not least in ‘Introducing…’ meet Wyke de Zanger, our new staff member. She is our PR and communications consultant.

Kind regards,
the Concertzender

Rome takes center state during the Early Music Festival Utrecht (EMF)

The 30th edition of the EMF will take place from Fri. Aug. 26 through Sun. Sept. 4. The festival theme this year is  ‘Roma - città eterna’ (Rome – eternal city) with Roman music from before the earliest middle ages to after the late baroque.

The early music scene’s crème de la crème will pay hommage through a largely unfamiliar Roman repertoire.  The emphasis will be on music  by Palestrina, Dufay, Frescobaldi and Corelli.

This year the Concertzender will be at the festival again. We will record at least 10 concerts which we will broadcast at a later date. We are also present at the Early Music Market in Utrecht:

  • September 2 to 4
  • in Museum Speelklok
  • at the  Steenweg in Utrecht

Many of our radio programs are featuring ensembles performing at the EMF. To get into the Roman atmosphere and introduce musicians and ensembles.

Introducing…
Wyke de Zanger –  communications and public relations

“I started working for the Concertzender in June. A friend of mine who works for the CZ placed an ad for this job as a student training function. I have completed my studies so the job did not seem suitable for me. But when the vacancy came up in conversation I was immediately interested.

Now I work for the CZ on a voluntary basis. At the moment I am analyzing what is happening at the CZ on the pr side of things and looking for areas of improvement. This way I speak with a great many people which I enjoy very much. In addition there are always lots of different things to do at the CZ. A short while ago I went to a festival as producer where the CZ made live recordings. Those are fun things to be busy with.”

Singing de Zanger (the Singer in English)
“I love music very much. I studied music sciences and also followed preliminary training in classical singing at the conservatory of Utrecht. Singing has moved into the background since my studies but my interest in music has not decreased in the slightest.

In spite of my studies in music I was not intimately acquainted with the CZ. A short while ago I discovered that the CZ makes many excellent programs in a variety of genres..”

Looking for work
“Since I graduated a few months ago I have been looking for work in the cultural sector. This is not easy, however. At the moment I am working at a service desk for the UvA but this is temporary. In order to gain experience in the world of culture I am working on various projects which interest me. For example, I am helping a singer to start a foundation, am doing the production and pr for a theatre production and of course I work at the CZ.”

Sound and Vision
“In addition to music I am also very interested in photography. I just bought a new camera which I am taking to India this summer. I also love to travel. South America is the next destination on my wish list.”
