Popart: Robert Jan Stips plays Supersister
5 July 2015 was a very warm day. Robert
Jan Stips thought so
as well. He had agreed
to play on three pianos more of less
simul-
taneously at the Beauforthuis in Austerlitz:
a Steinway, a Fazioli
and a Bechstein, each
with its own characteristic sound.
The three pianos were arranged in a triangle
and he played complete
versions of the first
three LPs by his old band Supersister. The
concert was recorded and was issued on CD
and DVD on 27 March 2016. The
concert was performed again when the release took place, and this time
the weather was colder but the performance was again warmly received.
All of this gave Robert Jan Stips enough reason to look back at his
period with Supersister.
An escaped rabbit
Concertzender staff member Paul Lemmens had the opportunity to
interview Stips at length about Supersister, their music and the
concert on the three pianos.

Panorama de Leeuw XXI: Schönberg Ensemble (3)
In Panorama de Leeuw on Wednesday 5 October 21:00 CET, Thea
Derks again looks
at the Schönberg Ensemble. The Schönberg Ensemble was
formed in 1974 at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague and immediately
had a major impact.
The most influential musician in the ensemble was the violist Henk
Guittart, a man with a great love of the music of the Second Viennese
School around Arnold Schönberg, Alban Berg and Anton Webern.Dorothy
Dorow
He initiated a number of ambitious and acclaimed projects in which
the complete chamber music by Schönberg, Webern and Berg was performed.
The series of concerts with Webern’s music took place in 1984 and
featured the British soprano Dorothy Dorow, a singer who specialised in
twelve-tone music. De Leeuw had worked with her earlier at the Royal
Conservatory.

The Soundcafé in New York
Presenter and music journalist Louis Gauthier takes his
radio programme The Soundcafé to New York. The Soundcafé is a show
about classical music in a modern setting and gives both established
musicians and young talent an opportunity to perform. This is the first
time that this Dutch radio programme has worked together with programme
makers in the US.
It is even more special because The Soundcafé
is an independant
initiative that is made by and
for young people. In New York The
Soundcafé
has been given the opportunity to present Dutch musicians who
have already established a name
in the US such as ocomposer Louis
Andriessen, violinist Tosca Opdam, composer Ruben Naeff
and opera
director Jorinde Keesmaat.
Gauthier: “It is fantastic to be able to make a programme in The Netherland Club, one of
the oldest clubs in the city and just around
the corner from the Radio City Music Hall.”
