The Concertzender in 2024: 40 years old and ready for the future2024 will be a very special year for the Concertzender: we are celebrating our 40th anniversary! We have been providing a home for exciting, unknown, vulnerable, disruptive and surprising music for all those years. With your support we will continue to do that. Keep an eye on our newsletter for all the activities that we will organise this year. We continue to evolve and change, but without making any concessions to the music. You may already know that we have been looking together with our volunteers and listeners at how we can make the Concertzender ready for the future. Over the last two years this has resulted in many new products. Most recently, our website has just been updated and we have introduced MyConcertzender, a place to save your favorite programs. And if all goes well, we can start broadcasting on a second channel in April this year, a channel that will be dedicated to jazz and world music. We wish you a Happy New Year and a year full of listening pleasure! |

ConcertPodiumWe start our anniversary year back where it all started: our first recording of a concert. The Concertzender has recorded thousands of concerts during the forty years since then. These can now be heard via ConcertPodium, an online music bank with exclusively our own concert recordings. This online collection now includes more than 2,000 concerts. That is approximately a quarter of the Concertzender's entire collection. Every year we continue to record about two hundred new concerts in various venues in the Netherlands and Belgium and in all kinds of music genres. Every Thursday for the next forty weeks you will hear a concert recording from each year of our existence in Concertzender Live. On Thursday, January 4, we will kick off our anniversary year with our very first recording from 1984, a song recital by bariton Max van Egmond with music by Franz Schubert, Benjamin Britten and others. Listen: Concertzender Live, Thursday January 4th, 14:00 - 16:00 CET. |

New programme: Kaap GonzoKaap Gonzo is a new programme on the Concertzender that be heard from Wednesday January 10. Kaap Gonzo is a collaboration between the Concertzender and the magazine Gonzo (circus). The programme is broadcast six times a year at the same time as the new edition of Gonzo (circus) magazine arrives on your doorstep. The radio show presents a selection of the music that has been discussed in articles or reviews in that edition of the magazine, together with tips and discoveries that were not included in the magazine, but in our opinion certainly could have been. Podium for Talent: a piano in the studioSanta Claus brought a very special gift for the Concertzender: a grand piano. This has been on our wish list for a long time. Now we have the piano we can also invite pianists to our Podium for Talent. In our weekly programme Concertzender Now we will be inviting conservatory students to offer them a stage for their music. This is possible because pianist, composer, bassoonist and concert organiser Jasper Bon has made the piano available. He had the plan to install a grand piano at various locations in the Netherlands and to organise concerts there. One of those locations is the Concertzender! On the photo: Jasper Bon is the first pianist to play on the new grand piano in the Concertzender studio. Since then, the lid has been attached to the piano. Listen: the grand piano in the last broadcast of Concertzender Now from 2023, which was broadcast wednesday December 20. |

Improvisation in contemporary classical musicAs well as allowing you to listen to exceptional music, the Concertzender often also offers new insights into such music. Many programme makers are extremely knowledgeable about a particular genre or era. They also like to share their knowledge with our listeners. You can find out more about improvisation in contemporary classical music in the Theme broadcast on January 24th. Programme maker Erik Voermans has selected music by Toru Takemitsu, Joël Bons and others. How do they incorporate improvisation into their compositions? Listen: Theme, Wednesday January 24, 20:00 - 22:00 CET.

Radio Art: Cassette CultureFinally, another new series of programmes. In January we will start a new series of Re:Light programmes about releases on music cassettes. In Radio Art: Cassette Culture you can hear that the music cassette is now back after never having really been away. To keep it pure, we play the original cassettes, not the downloads. This gives the most natural listening experience. To make it even more exciting, we are going to present both newly released cassettes and old copies. And, as always, we are going to seek out the most adventurous music makers in the world of the music cassette. The musicians and the composers who publish their own music. Limited editions. Listen: Re:light featuring the first broadcast of Radio Art: Cassette Culture, Thursday January 11, 23:00 - 00:00 CET.
