Virtuoso playing techniques

Valentin Clastrier is generally
seen as the first person to
make the hurdygurdy suitable
for modern music, thanks to virtuoso playing techniques
and the discovery of new
sound possibilities. For many years he played with leading European jazz artists such as
Louis Sclavis, Michel Godard
and Michael Riessler.

Clarinettist and composer Steven Kamperman led the groundbreaking world jazz formation Baraná for the last 10 years, playing from Mexico to Siberia.

Way beyond traditional folk music

Moors Magazine said this about the duo Valentin Clastrier - Steven Kamperman
during the Baraná Worldjazz Festival, april 2014: “ Of course the duo Clastrier and Kamperman go way beyond traditional folk music, but you can't call it jazz either. Worldjazzfolk? What you see, when you seem them play is in fact very simple: two musicians on a musical adventure. They don't think it matters how you categorise
their music, it's all about the sounds they produce, the interplay, about the musical story they tell - they just make intense music, together. It's magnificent to see and hear that intriguing adventure, particularly when you have two musicians who get
each other, and go a long way together, such as here.”

You can find more information about the het duo on thewebsite of Steven Kamperman and there's a video you can watch via YouTube.
