This
month you can win a CD on the Pentatone label with the arrangement by Arnold Schönberg of the Piano Quartet
opus 25
by Brahms if you know
the correct answer to our competition
question.
The
question in our competition in June was: Two works by Alexander
Scriabin
were performed on 26, 27 and 28 October 1912, by an
orchestra that included Alexander Scriabin himself. The
perfomance took place in the Concertgebouw in
Amsterdam and
the conductor was Willem Mengelberg. Which two works were
performed?
The correct answer was the Piano Concert in F-sharp minor opus 20 and
Prometheus (symphony no. 5) opus 60. The winner of the Scriabin CD by
Mikhail Pletnev is Hugo de Jager. Congratulations!
This month's question
In 1937 Arnold Schönberg made an arrangement of the Piano
Quartet opus 25 by Johannes Brahms. The music was later
used for a
ballet with a choreo-
graphy by George Balanchine
that had its premiere
with the
New York City Ballet. Our
question this month is: In
which
year did this premiere
take place?
What can you win?
A newly released CD on the Pentatone label with the
arrangement
by Arnold
Schönberg of the Piano
Quartet opus 25 by Brahms,
performed by the Nederlands Philharmonisch Orkest and conducted
by Marc Albrecht.
