The Young Folk in ‘Acoustic Roots’

In June the Irish folk band The Young Folk will perform in the
Pieternel of the Pieterskerk in Utrecht. The recording is private
so without an audience and will be broadcasted on 19 June from
21.00 till 22.00.

The Young Folk is an Irish band formed around singer, guitarist and songwriter Anthony Furey. As the son of George Furey who was part of the famous band the Furey Brothers, he comes from a musical family. Anthony Furey not only has a talent for composing but also a beautiful voice. And he sure isn't the only one of the band who can sing; in several songs the voices of the band melt together in beautiful The Young Folkharmonies.

Contemporary twist

“The Young Folk makes music of which a part is firmly embedded
in the traditions of the Irish folk. On the other hand The Young Folk also tries to give a con-
temporary twist to this folk
and regularly go off the beaten tracks of traditional Irish folk music both in terms of instru-
ments as well as song struc-
tures.” (According to journalist Erwin Zijleman).

This month the band will release its debut CD 'The Little Battle' on Pixie Pace Records, a new label under the umbrella of ARC Music. This label releases CDs
of young singer songwriters and contemporary folk musicians.

In the Netherlands the band has already gained some fame by their performance
The Young Folkin a TV programme of Nick & Simon. This spring The Young
Folk performed in a full Paradiso. The band was also the support act of Midlake.
