Introducing … Fons Moers

Fons Moers has been making programmes for the Concertzender since 2008
that showcase music from the less well-known and the totally unknown regions of pop music.

“I make an hour-long programme for ‘Pop Art’ once a month that is then broadcast on Wednesday evening. I come up with an idea for the programme, then select the music and write the text. My input then goes to the studio where the spoken texts are recorded and the programme is put together. Sometimes that is also done live. ‘Pop Art’ is a weekly programme about the less well-known and totally unknown regions of pop music. And you can include lots of different sorts of music under the label 'pop'. My hour of ‘Pop Art’ is always scheduled directly before the monthly broadcast of ‘Café Sonore’. The two programmes often flow together although this is never deliberately planned.”Fons Moers

A warm nest

“A friend of mine, who also
made programmes for the Concertzender, was the first
to ask me if I was interested
in working here. Making radio programmes was interesting
and so I came for an interview. This was followed by a pilot programme and that was approved. At my first editorial meeting I recognised a lot of
the people around the table. They turned out to be people
that also went to the same concerts as I do. It's a small world and the Concertzender felt like home from the beginning. Full of enthousiasm for the music.”

Graphical designer

“My background is as a graphical designer and illustrator. You can see some of my work on the website www.zetduivel.nl. This means that I also have a keen interest in the packaging of the music as well as in the music itself. I am particularly interested in unusual and striking designs. I collect second-hand records and am always immediately attracted by a well designed sleeve. I spend a lot of time at markets looking for unusual records, but also look for books and brochures with delicate designs and typography. I enjoy designs that are from periods that I have not personally experienced. It seems that these designs ill never return, but then again …”

Instrumental

“I have a strong preference for instrumental music and listen a lot to soundtracks and electronic music. I can never remember the lyrics of songs and I don't want to be limited by them anyway. Instrumental music works without any lyrics. I am free
to interpret it in my own way. I am therefore always searching for music that you and I have not yet heard. There are still lots of treasures to be found in boxes of secondhand records.”
