Questions
have been asked recently about the number of music
festivals in the
Netherlands. We don't see a problem as long as the quality remains high
and they continue to attract enough people!
The Concertzender will be making recordings at the festivals listed below during
the summer.
Afrikafestival, Hertme Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 July
For
more than 25 years, the most important African musicians have
found their way to the pictoresque open-air theatre in Hertme for
this exciting festival. This year the line-up includes Habib Koité,
Mamar Kassey, The Ghana Bigshots, Nancy Vieira, Debademba and may more.

Peter the Great festival, Groningen, Drente
16 to 26 July
The Peter the Great Festival is the biggest chamber music festival in
the north of the Netherlands with more than 20 concerts
during a period
of 11 days.

Festival Early Music, Utrecht
29 August to 7 September
The theme this year is the Habsburgs, with
a focus on the composers Heinrich Isaac, Philippus
de Monte, Heinrich Ignaz Franz
Biber, Johann Joseph Fux en Jan Dismas
Zelenka.

Gaudeamus Music Week, Utrecht
10 to 14 September
This
internationally reknowned festival for contemporary classical music
again offers the chance to hear the latest works by up-and-coming
composers.
