On
Friday 21 February (21:00 - 22:00) the folk singer
and singer-songwriter Linde Nijland is the guest in the live
programme Acoustic Roots, together with the multi-instrumentalist Bert Ridderbos.
Linde
Nijland is the best-known folk singer in the Netherlands. She has a
crystal-clear voice and sings songs in the style of English, Irish and
American folk music. Linde began her career at an early age, as
one half of the duo Ygdrassil. She performed with Ygdrassil for 15
years and made 5 albums. She has performed
solo since 2007,
accompanied by
multi-instrumentalist Bert Ridderbos, sometimes
in combination
with other artists (including Iain Matthews and Fred Piek).
Her
succesful homage to the British singer Sandy Denny (‘Linde Nijland
sings Sandy Denny’) attracted the attention of the
American producer Joe Boyd, who asked her to sing in a reunion
concert of the legendary group Fairport Convention in the Barbican Hall
in London in 2009.
Special journey
Linde has been in the news in the last few years (NRC
Handels-
blad and Radio 1 Journaal both reported it) as the result
of a special journey over land to the Himalayan kingdom
of Bhutan. A (musical) report of this journey forms the basis for
for the CD and DVD with the title 'A Musical Journey' that was issued
in 2010. During the journey Linde gave concerts and performed together
with traditional musicians in the countries that she visited including Serbia, Iran, India and Bhutan.
Linde's new cd (her 10th) is issued in March. On this CD, she
performs together
with Bert Ridderbos (on guitar, banjo, cittern,
bass, mandolin and accordion) and several guest musicians. The CD is
titled 'I Am Here' and contain many of her own songs together with some
covers and a traditional. In Acoustic Roots, Linde will be
perfoming live and will give an exclusieve preview of the new
album.
