In memoriam Bob Rusche: Musick Will Be The CureProgramme maker and DJ Bob Rusche passed away suddenly on Thursday, June 25. This news has deeply affected us all, and especially those who worked closely with him.
Bob inspired the other programme makers of the Crosslinks editorial team, causing Sunday evenings to grow into a six-hour listening experience. Read the In Memoriam by former Crosslinks editorial coordinator Hessel Veldman here. Harrold Roeland, compiler of Sensenta, has taken over the programme for Sunday, June 28th. Keti Koti with Surinamese fusion
After the abolition of slavery, contract labourers were brought from other Dutch and British colonies, such as Java and India, to work for the Dutch on the Surinamese plantations. The blending of cultures between the original inhabitants and the descendants of enslaved people from West Africa, the Asian contract labourers, and through influences from Latin America has also led to a musical mix of styles. This is clearly audible in Surinamese fusion music. In the run-up to July 1, the programme Ritmundo already celebrated Keti Koti on June 26th, with music by Vincent Henar’s Fra Fra Sound, Hindi singer Raj Mohan, flutist Ronald Snijders, and singer Sabrina Starke. First concerts Transition Festival on World of Jazz Live
We kick off on Friday, July 3, with Danish double bassist Jasper Høiby and his 3 Elements concert. This will be followed on July 10 and 17 by performances from Fenix (featuring Kika Sprangers on saxophone) and French bass clarinetist Louis Sclavis with his quartet. This is not all, there is more from the 2026 Transition Festival coming up in August! Summer Break Concertzender NowOn Wednesday, July 1, you can hear the final programme from Concertzender Now before the summer break. On Wednesday, July 8, we begin with recordings from 2021 from the Orlando Festival, which sadly no longer takes place. You will hear music by Beethoven, Schubert and Brahms, as well as works by Rudolf Escher and Hyacinthe Jadin. The Concertzender Now team is taking a break before returning on September 2 to resume their full coverage of the music world—with interviews with musicians and concert organisers, performances on the Podium voor Talent (Stage for Talent), the CD of the Week and a spoken column. Spanish Academy of Pleasure
Fahmi Alqhai is a Spanish viola da gamba player, born in Seville, with Syrian and Palestinian roots. He founded his current ensemble, Accademia del Piacere, in 2002. He has made numerous appearances at Dutch festivals and concert halls. Recent releases by him and his ensemble feature both original compositions and inspired performances of works by Spanish composers from the 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries. It is a time of highs and lows. While enjoying the summer and holiday season, news of a sudden passing hits hard. The distinctive Bob Rusche is no more. He leaves behind a unique musical treasure at the Concertzender in 
Bob hosted the programme X-Rated, first at Kink FM and later at the Concertzender. The program had secured a unique place with us. Bob's unparalleled musical knowledge ensured an eclectic mix of new and old records, always special and topical. A large fan base faithfully tuned in to his programme every Sunday evening.
On July 1, 1863, slavery was officially abolished in Suriname. It is a national holiday in Suriname, and in the Netherlands, too, we commemorate ‘Keti Koti’, the ‘breaking of the chains’.
The Splendor Story
We had already announced it earlier, but now the time has come. In July, we are broadcasting the first three concerts from the 2026 edition of the Transition Festival in TivoliVredenburg. We were there and made recordings on March 28.
During the summer months, Wednesday afternoons will feature recordings made by the Concertzender at various festivals over the past few years—ranging from the Early Music Festival to North Sea Jazz, and from De Muze van Zuid to November Music.
In the programme On Cloud Nine, producer Johan Lefèvre presents secular music from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance on the last Thursday of every month. This music often deals with earthly themes such as love, drinking, and politics—a fitting repertoire for Fahmi Alqhai and his ensemble, Accademia del Piacere (Academy of Pleasure).
