Grand masters of Indian classical music in a unique performance in Den Haag |
On Saturday 18 November 2017 Swapan Chaudhuri and Ken Zuckerman are performing in Theater a/h Spui in Den Haag. This unique concert is a premiere in the Netherlands and features two of the grand masters of Indian classical music. Indian classical music is based on improvisation and draws the listener into a world of sensitive melodies and complex rhythms.Swapan Chaudhuri is one of the world's best players of the tabla. He has been responsible for promoting Indian classical music outside India together with artists such as Ravi Shankar and Ali Akbar Khan. He is reknowned for the clarity of his sound and his ability to perform the most refined compositions for the tabla. He has also established a reputation outside India with his albums Legacy (1997) and Passing on the Tradition (1998) which were both nominated for Grammy awards. Ken Zuckerman is a remarkable name within Indian classical music. This American sarod player is a disciple of the world famous sarod master Ali Akbar Khan. He has performed all over the world together with Khan and has established a reputation as one of the world's best sarod players. The album ‘Diaspora Sefardi’ (2009) on which Zuckerman plays was nominated for a Grammy Award. Ken Zuckerman and Swapan Chaudhuri have been performing together for 35 years but this is the first time that they can be heard together in the Netherlands.
