DreamScenes is a new monthly series of programmes that is first broadcast on the second Sunday of every month at 20:00 CET (and is subsequently available at all times 'on demand').

The name of the series already reveals the nature of the programmes: a monthly dreamscape that consistent of a non-stop mix of ambient soundscapes, experimental electronica and neo-classical music (and sometimes other genres, what is important is the atmosphere that the music invokes not the label that it has been given). The choice for a continuous mix has been made so that a dreamlike mood can be created and the playlist (as usual) can always be found on the Concertzender website).DreamScenes logo

Tension and relaxation

Don't expect the programme to only consist of quiet and relaxing sounds: after all, dreams can also be exciting and can even lead to nightmares. It is the alternation between tension and relaxation that creates the atmosphere in which the listener can start to dream. And dreams need not only occur late at night, day-dreams are possible at any moment!

Ambient mixes

DreamScenes is compiled by Peter van Cooten. He has experience producing radio programmes for the NPS/VPRO including the programme Supplement for which he frequently made ambient mixes. He also produced the programme Folio for Radio 6 together with Arno Peeters. He also has maintained a personal weblog for the last 11 years called ambientblog.net, which has become well-known in the international ambient and electronica scene. The series DreamScenes has been part of the weblog for some time, but has now been developed into a radio programme that is specially made for the Concertzender.

Serene music

Peter has noticed an increasing interest in serene music (including ambient) in the last few years, possible as a reaction to the increasingly hectic times in which we live. But maybe also because listeners have been exposed to 'atmospheric' music in the soundtracks for films and games. He hopes that this new series will include interesting new music for existing fans as well as providing an introduction for those who are new to the genre.

The first programme in the series was broadcast on Sunday 9 July and can be heard on demand here. Subsequently the programme will be broadcast on the second Sunday of every month at 20:00 CET.
