Acoustic Roots: Dieter van der Westen |
On Friday 12th May 2017 our guest in Acoustic Roots is Dieter van der Westen. He will be in the atmospheric basement of de Kargadoor in Utrecht for a performance and interview.Dieter van der Westen is a Dutch singer-songwriter, composer and music producer. Early in 2016 his second solo album, Old Oak Tree, was released. Dieter has a strong preference for using acoustic instruments in his music. His texts are sometimes associative and partly autobiographical, the melodies are simple and pure. His last CD, Old Oak Tree, consists of ten new tracks with his own material. The style could be described as ‘Americana with a hint of world music’. For the presentation of his new album Dieter plays duets with a number of musicians who collaborated in the making of the album. Dieter became famous for his work with his North-African group Kasba, behind which he is one of the driving forces. With Kasba he is internationally active in Europe, Africa and South America. In the Netherlands Dieter van der Westen works together with artists such as Thé Lau, Blof, Paul de Leeuw, Frank Boeijen, Ali B, Eric Vloeimans, Gerard van Maasakkers, Astrid Nijgh and the Metropole Orkest.
