This
month we continue our series of five programmes about the work of
the composer Noël Lee. The first episode was broadcast on Sunday
27 November.
Programme
maker Evert Jan Nagtegaal was planning a visit to Paris in 2013 to make
a recording together with his good friend
the pianist/composer Noël Lee. However, Lee died suddenly
immediately before this trip took place. The planned recording session
was unfortunately replaced by a funeral service. Evert Jan was
devastated after his trip to Paris but declared his intention to one
day make a portrait about this very productive musician.
Now, three years later, this intention has resulted in an impressive
five-part series of programmes in which Evert Jan tells the
story of Noël Lee's life. Nagtegaal: “The Concertzender gave me the opportunity to make five programmes about Noël. I
have so many LPs and CDs with his music that I could easily have made
many more, but these five programmes form a suitable monument for Noël”.
The first programme was broadcast in Harmonious on Sunday 27 November. The
other four programmes are broadcast every Sunday in December with the
final programme being broadcast on Christmas Day, the birthday of Noël Dayton Lee.”
