On Friday 18 March 2016 guitarist Régis Coisne and drummer
Didier Griboval are the guests of Acoustic Roots. They call themselves the Kowan Duo.
Régis
Coisne (acoustic guitar) and Didier Griboval (drums) bring us along on
a
musical world tour with a varied repertoire. From Brazil with the
Jobim Bossa to
the Anglo-Saxon rock by The Who, the Indian jazz by John
McLaughlin and the
rich jazzrock by Billy Cobham, but also
Arab-Andalusian music and traditional
Irish music. Moreover, for this
duo Régis Coisne has also arranged his own compositions.
Guitar heroes
Régis Coisne was born in Lille,
France. His mother was a
pianist
and made sure he received piano lessons when he was still very
young. However, it was the era of guitar heroes
so he soon switched
to guitar lessons. When he was 14 years old, he
started his first band together with his older brothers and
a couple of
friends. The group was booked for its first live gig but they hadn't
found a bass player yet so Régis decided he himself would then
play the bass guitar. Later he discovers fusion, bebop, Bill Evans'
piano and the guitar play by Wes Montgomery and Joe
Pass.
In 1970s and 80s Paris, he played guitar like Baden Powell did but due to the rediscovery of folk music and the striking guitar play of Dick Annegarn he decided
to only play on acoustic guitar from then on.
Korean influences
Régis Coisne plays in various formations: on his own in Kowan Solo, the Kowan Duo with Didier Griboval as they will be heard in Acoustic Roots, but also with Sinakowan where he incorporates Korean influences in his music. For more information you can
go to his website.
Broadcast: Friday 18 March 2016 9:00 pm – 10:00 pm.
