Introducing… Cobie Ivens

Cobie Ivens was born in 1946 in Rotterdam. She is a programme
maker and the assistant coordinator World Music at the Concert-
zender.

“In March 2012 the World Music coordinator Carolien Cleiren advertised a vacancy
on the Concertzender website. I had just retired and the Concertzender was a
perfect match with my musical tastes. I started as Carolien's assistant entering
new CDs into the database. After a couple of weeks she asked me to compile the programme Let's Hear It. In January 2013 I was also made responsible for the programme The Early World, and in June 2013 The Night: World Music was added. Occasionaly I was also asked to compile other programmes such as Mariama, World Minerals and The Night: Jazz.”Cobie Ivens

Tour de France

“I was asked to make two
special programmes as part of
our celebrations of the start of
the Tour de France in Utrecht.
You can listen to those pro-
grammes here: Le Tour de France (first broadcast on 26 June 19:00 – 20:00) and La
Nuit Française
(The French Night, first broadcast in the
night of 4/5 juli from 01:00 – 07:00).”

Secrétaire artistique

“I have always worked in the music world. My first job was at the ticket desk at the Lantaren/
Venster, a cinema and concert
hall in Rotterdam. In 1967 I was inspired by Bill Graham's Filmore East Music sceneand went to New York City. In 1968 I moved to Paris where I met Dick Annegarn who was then very succesful there as a singer and guitarist. I worked with him for 12 years, first as secrétaire artistique and later as tourmanager. After that I worked for many other musicians in a variety of musical genres including chanson, rock, jazz and world music.”

Amsterdam cultural organisations

“I returned to the Netherlands in 1996 and worked for a number of different cultural organisations in Amsterdam. My last job was at The John Adams Institute. I worked there as the event coordinator for 7 years and during this period organised 120 lectures by prominent American writers. I am still sometimes asked to organise performances and film nights, most recently Jungle by Night in Paradiso.”
