Introducing … Roel Janssen,
programme maker and presenter

Roel Janssen is the presenter of the new programme ‘Space Exposure’ which will be broadcast from the 24th May.

“I'm a music journalist and editor and for the last five years I've worked fulltime for the popmagazine ‘LiveXS’. That was an enormous musical learning process during which I discussed a huge number of new releases, concerts and festivals and interviewed hundreds of artists. I specialised in hiphop and electronics. After my period with ‘LiveXS’ I wrote freelance for publications such as ‘FRET’, ‘State Magazine’, ‘Hiphopinjesmoel’ and ‘Reload’. For the radioprogramme ‘NightLiveXS’ on Kink FM I coordinated concert discussions for a few years. Before then I played a lot for pirate radio stations, internetstations and local broadcasters in North Brabant .”Roel Janssen

Challenging

“I long wanted to do something with radio other than going
down well-trodden paths,
rather something challenging
and different from the rest.
Play music that you can't hear anywhere else. At the Concert-
zender I get the chance to do
this and especially the authentic and orthodox character of the studio I find attractive. This is radio as it should be, without unnecessary computer screens and webcams which disturb the intimacy of radio.”

Boards Of Canada

“At home I have an enormous cd collection and as well as a lot of pop, rock, alternative, hiphop, triphop, funk, soul and jazz I have a veritable arsenal of electronic music, but I look for new releases or I get tips from a friend who works for the record shop Plato. My current favourite electronic group is the Scottish duo Boards Of Canada. With their music they create an incomparable atmosphere of depth, sadness, intensity and melancholy . Pure analogue electronic music full of nostalgia. Other favorites of mine are among others Autechre, Aphex Twin, Speedy J, The Orb, The KLF, DJ Shadow and The Prodigy from their rave and breakbeat period, but there is so much! My other passions apart from music and going to concerts and writing are running, nature, travel, internet, football and Scandinavian crime series.”
